SDO CME launch

A Large prominence that had rotated around from the edges of the sun as viewed from earth and SDO was actually a long filament of suspended plasma. The above picture is the  filament erupting from the surface due to hotter material being released below it. See it in motion...

Sunspot goes bang!


Sunspot goes bang as seen in SDO imagers 20111109-13:17 bang!
A cold filament is launched, to be come the body of CME material, as a sunspot erupts and plasma loops reload.  http://helioviewer.org/?movieId=lTQ15

Here is an big picture view using SOHO C2 and C3 data that show the progression of the CME outwards from the event, over four hours.
